After a short hiatus from green smoothies I’m back on the train again. Since the hubby has done a lot of the grocery shopping lately I’ve had to convince him that it was time to get back to drinking a green smoothie every single day!

So with that in mind and summer sadly winding down I decided to try and squeeze every last drop out of the summer by whipping up one of my favorite summer drinks in Green Smoothie form – Mojito flavoured!

A classic mojito consists of lime and mint muddled together with some ice cubes and cane sugar. From there you add your favourite rum and club soda. The dominate flavours (non-alcoholic flavours that is!) are lime, mint and a hint of sugar.

Lime and mint are plenty healthy but I’m not interested in pouring cane sugar into my green smoothies – kinda defeats the purpose donthca think? A few drops of honey are my substitute, although I don’t always add it to this drink. It’s pretty delish without any added sweetness.

I’m a little mint crazy, I just adore the smell and the flavour so I usually add extra mint :).


Mint Lime Mango Green Smoothie

Ingredients

1 Handful of Fresh Mint

1 Fresh Lime

1 Handful of Spinach

2 Cups of Frozen Mango

4-8 Ice Cubes Depending On Your Preferred Texture

16 Ounces of Unsweetened Almond Milk

OR

8 Ounces of Unsweetened Almond Milk and 8 Ounces of Cold Water

1 TBSP Honey (Optional)


 

Health Benefits

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that mint has a ton of antioxidants! It’s also been used in traditional medicine for soothing tummy aches, relieving sore throats and it’s a natural decongestant. I used to drink peppermint tea whenever I got sick (which is rarely these days) – I’ll have to experiment with mint in the future.

Spinach, as you probably already know is a serious power house. It’s packed full of vitamins and minerals including vitamin K, vitamin A and iron. We’re not adding it for the taste profile!
