The whole purpose of a vacation is to spend a week or two without worrying about your actual problems. At that time in my life I had my fair share of them, you know, problems. I suffered from IBS, was constantly overwhelmed with anxiety and was in a toxic relationship.

Half way through my relaxing vacation I ended up in a hospital after contracting a parasite. So there I was, an anxious ball of emotions lying in a Mexican hospital bed. So much for my vacation. That was my rock bottom.

I know it sounds like I’m being dramatic, but at that moment I realized; my health is the most important thing I had and I was literally poisoning myself. If I’m constantly battling recurring infections at twenty-something, what happens when I’m sixty?

My parents are vibrant, healthy and in their 60s. They enjoy their lives immensely. They just had their first grandkid and the level of excitement in both g’ma and g’pa is incredible! That’s what I wanted.

My Rock Bottom

I knew I had to make a major change. I was anxious, constantly sick, depressed and overweight. I didn’t know where to begin so I dived in head first and started learning about health and wellness. While my peers were partying, I was learning about nutrition and health so I could reclaim my own.

I don’t want to make this sound like I gave everything up. I didn’t. I still enjoy alcohol and eat like a king. I don’t count calories because I know if I put clean, whole foods into my system I’ll be rewarded. Sound simple? It seriously is, I lost 20 pounds in a few short months and I am healthier and happier then I have ever been.

The Process

On a friend’s recommendation, the first thing that I did was start drinking a Green Smoothie every day. If I had to break down the steps I took to lose 20 pounds and reclaim my health they’d look like this.

  1. Start drinking Green Smoothies
  2. Cut out the crap. You can drink as many green smoothies you want, if you’re still eating constantly eating low quality food (pizza, proce ice-cream, bagels, sauces consisting of more chemicals than actual ingredients etc.) you’re not going to be rewarded.
  3. Live a moderately active lifestyle. I workout, but I’m not a gym rat. I prefer activities I actually enjoy like hiking or biking. I do yoga several times a week because I like it. Find something you enjoy to do and find someone you enjoy doing it with and you won’t need to force yourself to go workout.
  4. Detox. I’m not talking about revolting against food for 7 days or anything crazy like that. Every three or four months, I drink a Green Detox Smoothie everyday for 2 weeks. This helps to flush out toxins and heavy metals that have accumulated over the past four months. Looking for a Green Smoothie for Weight Loss? That detox smoothie will be your best friend, it’s packed with nutrition and low in calories.

The Carrot

A really big carrot showed up that day while I was lying in a hospital bed during my vacation. Everyone has their motivation, mine was simple I wanted to get healthy.

I was always taught if I wanted to achieve a goal I need to be specific. So let me be specific.

I didn’t want my immune system to fail on a monthly basis. I wanted to be able to get through a day without wanting to curl up into a ball and take a nap. I wanted to look in the mirror and feel beautiful. I want to be alive and healthy when my first grandchild is born.

Whats you’re carrot?

The Final Sip: The Payoff

Since I took that first step to incorporate Green Smoothies into my lifestyle I lost 20 pounds, have way more energy and best of all I haven’t been back to a hospital.

Danielle: Before and After

It didn’t happen overnight – but it did happen in a matter of months. I began by drinking green smoothies every day and incorporating more leafy greens into my diet. Kale became my new best friend. As I began to feel better, I began to CRAVE healthy foods, because they made me feel so good. I also began to notice which foods were distressing my body – gluten, dairy, processed food and excessive sugar intake.

If you’re looking to make one positive change I really can’t recommend Green Smoothies enough. I owe a lot of the success I’ve had to those delicious green drinks. Making change is hard and the reason I started this website is to help people make that change. Every second month we will be holding a Green Smoothie Challenge, where you can join hundreds (soon to be thousands)  of others who have taken a critical first step in reclaiming their health.

I’ve setup a FAQ page which answers a lot of questions about green smoothies and our challenge.
