The Green (but really healthy) Goop: The Green Detox Smoothie Recipe

Drinking this cucumber green smoothie for two to three weeks every morning is one of the easiest, yet most effective forms of detox. It’s packed full of vegetables that will detoxify your liver, kidney and bloodstream, as well it will reduce inflammation and help to rehydrate your body. And of course, it’s an incredibly powerful way to help restore your bodies natural pH levels. A stable pH range is critical for your immune system.


This green smoothie isn’t for the light of heart, my partner affectionately describes it as my morning green goop.  And while it won’t wow your taste buds it’ll begin to remove heavy metals and other toxins floating around in your body.

Cleansing Green Smoothie


  • 1 Handful of Spinach
  • 1/2 Lemon, Peeled
  • 1″ of grated ginger (frozen)
  • 1/3 cucumber
  • 1 Small Handful of Cilantro
  • 1 Small Handful of Parsley
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • 1 Apple (Optional)


  • If the ginger isn’t frozen peel it, otherwise grate it right in
  • Peel the lemon
  • Blend it!

Health Benefits

Parsley is a diuretic which means it’ll stimulate kidney activity to flush out toxins. The chlorophyll found in Parsley is terrific for blood purification by removing heavy metals.

Consuming Cilantro has been proven to be one of the most effective methods to remove heavy metals from our bodies. Heavy metals are found everywhere – they’re in pesticides and herbicides used to grow our food, in our water sources and everyday products such as shampoo and deodorant. More and more studies are finding that heavy metals are a contributing source of disease and other health issues.

Lemons are great for restoring the natural pH balance in your body. Everyday we consume food that is very acidic including wheat, sugar, beer and meat. Our body wants to maintain a pH level of 7.365 – adding lemons (and other greens) to your diet will help stabilize your pH level resulting in a stronger immune system.

Remember when you were a kid and your mom gave you ginger ale when you had an upset stomach? Ginger reduces inflammation and has been shown to be effective at fighting symptoms caused by a head cold or the flu. It also helps digestion and can calm an upset stomach.

Spinach is the ultimate superfood, it’s cheap, readily available, low in calories, high in chlorophyll, loaded with vitamins and minerals and it’s difficult to find a superior food in terms of protein per calorie.

The Final Sip

When I initially started consuming this smoothie I would always add an apple for taste. Also, it really helps if you have a powerful blender such as a Blendtec or a Vitamix. I found my $60 blender would leave behind green chunkies which aren’t that desirable. When you’re drinking this smoothie, thinking “why am I drinking this” remember that this smoothie isn’t about the taste, it’s all about the benefits and it’s got a TON of benefits. It’s a green smoothie that I drink three to four times a week for two to three weeks to detoxify my body.
